Amboy Works, N.J. Louis IV Leaded Lamp

Gilt bronze table lamp with a leaded glass shade, unmarked, 27 1/2'' h., 21'' dia. A nearly identical lamp was sold at Pook & Pook, Inc., March 18, 2014, lot 223. Provenance: The Estate of Katherine K. Gaeth, Ephrata, Pennsylvania.

Ed. Original Attribution of Gorham changed to: Amboy Works, N.J. The advertisement is from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, October 1908 showing this lamp. Here is further evidence that Sibley's Amboy Works were very capable of making the so-called 'Gorham' shades. This advert was from the Wanamaker Store in NYC, in October of 1908. By chance, Pook & Pook auctioned this lamp. Also in this advertisement at the bottom right is another Amboy lamp, an example of which we have here. Their text says " We were glad to take all THE MAKER had on hand".

While Amboy were proven to have made shades for Reed & Barton's bases, one possibility is that they did the same for Gorham which might explain how some shades turn up on Gorham signed bases.
