A Very Fine and Rare Tiffany Favrile Glass and Bronze Wild Poppy Chandelier

This lamp appeared in Sotheby's April 1995 auction of items from the John Mecom collection.

The umbrella form shade with an all over pattern of poppy blossoms in shades of pale peach striated with opalescence, lemmon-yellow mottled with opalescence, amber or lime green and amber striated or mottled with opalescence, lime green, lemon yellow or crimson, the rippled glass leafage in shades of sea green striated with opalescence and emerald green; reserved against an opalescent ground shaded with lime green and lemon yellow, the lower border with two rows of rippled opalescent glass striated with lime green and salmon, the crown pierced with geometric devices between scrolling hooks with foliate terminals, lower rim with applied beaded border, brown-green patina, original chains and ceiling mount, impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK. This extraordinary shade was certainly a special commission made by Tiffany Studios and most probably a unique example.
