From Sotheby's auction December 5th, 1998, Important Works Of Art by Louis Comfort Tiffany

The domical shade with irregular lower border composed of an array of poppy blossoms in various states of development, in shades of ruby red, crimson, violet, orange, and white striated opalescent glass, with some tiles streaked with blue and yellow, with selected blossom centers with pierced bronze filigree. Has pigtail finial, mottled green-brown patina, shade impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK, base impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK/3136. Height 6' 7", diameter 24".

This outstanding lamp exemplifies Tiffany Studios' ability to produce variations of its existing designs on special order for its clients. Using characteristics of both the standard poppy filigree lamp and irregular lower border lamps, combining them as seen here in what is possibly a unique lamp. No other examples are known to exist.
