Tiffany Studios, Inverted Tulip

This lamp appeared in Sotheby's June 1996 auction of items from the Collection of Roy Warshawsky.

The deep domical shade with an irregular lower border of white tulip blossoms in mottled white opalescent and rippled glass below buds of similar glass some tinged with green, the stems and leafage in various shades of green mottled opalescent glass; raised on a base cast with two rows of opposing petals mounted on a circular base, has pierced finial, green/brown patina, shade impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK, base impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK/586. Height 24 1/2", diameter 15" The upper flange of this shade clearly indicates that it was originally intended to be mounted in the reverse position. This shade was probably a special order and most likely intended to be used as the upper section of a torchere. Another example of this rare shade is known to exist in a private collection.
